~10% of people are "super responders" meaning that moderate work for a short time results in marked physical change.
most people are "average responders" which means that hard work for a long time will show reasonable physical change.
here's the rub though. about ~10% are "low responders" which means that after hard work for prolonged time, they show little to no change. they get frustrated and quit working out when they realize that no amount of work is going to give them the body they dream of.
that said, exercise has numerous other health benefits and everyone should do it. but, if you are just doing it to look pretty, and it's not working, then quit. you probably have crappy genes.
