lifting twice a week is fine. especially for beginning.
what is your cardio though? i run and there's no way i can run the day after doing squats. i like to run one day, lift the next, then rest. if you are just starting out exercising, the cardio might leave you pretty tired too.
don't overdo it and get good rest.
