Totally. Calorie expenditure is complex and extremely variable from one person to the next. Starvation diets will mostly lead to muscle loss and rebound dieting - they do for the vast majority of people who go down that route. I feel that insulin control has a profound effect on weight gain and body composition. Weight training has given me way better body comp than hours of cardio.

Personally, the formula that worked best for me is the Carb Nite Solution + Weightlifting + HIIT cycling. I recommend Carb Nite Solution because my personal experience with Keto is that my testosterone levels dropped very low from the carb restriction. With CNS's weekly carb refeed, I've lost and kept off the belly fat and my testosterone levels stay strong. Also, it's extremely helpful to be still be able to eat junky carbs like pizza, chinese food and desserts as far as food cravings go. I've tried the whole trying to create replacement versions of favorite foods and in general they suck. I can eat just plain meat, some fats and some veggies for a long time.
