Looking good is just being lowish bodyfat and high muscle gain.
Any novice program that revolves around compound movements, getting stronger and 2-3x a week full body routines will be a majority of what you need training wise.
The nutrition stuff is still good to skim through (can just look at the nutrition pyramid book to understand "these are important/ these are unimportant") The pyramid books are great for beginners because they give you the most important foundation of understanding what to look for. So they are very easy to skim through and get the important stuff out of.
If you are an overweight beginner you can do a deficit calorie wise while keeping high protein (.6-.8g x bodyweight depending on how fat you start with).
Other than that there's not much other than basic info. Don't eat junk food, tons of alcohol, processed sugars etc. Supplement with a couple thousand IU of D3 if you don't get sunlight.
